The Lavender Park 2007

The Lavender Park 2007
oil on canvas

In the painting, 'The Lavender Park', this is an example to show my exploration of other art styles and movements. The last few decades has become very exciting, I've found Expressionism to be so enjoyable. I love the way the oil paint or any other medium can be placed with just what your feeling at that moment in your life.

I consider this painting very interesting and just the tones in the washes of watercolour are really beautiful. No more detail I deliberately wanted to avoid in painting those wild bleeding hearts. And I just spent more on the emotions and the quiet of that forest; those pretty pink flowers and all the different shades of green.

So much beautiful colour I painted into that wild rosebush. Some of the roses were still in blossom and not quite faded yet considering it was Autumn time now. Around that time I tried not to place to much emphases on detail. The placement of the watercolour seemed more important and I love the feel of this small painting.

I loved painting this small watercolour painting along the Fraser River. In the 1970's my earlier works had so much detail. I've always enjoyed capturing the vivid colours of Fall and I'm so happy it was a sunny October day.
